Dad, Where Are You?

A very sad depiction of divorce!  There is a faint outline of a figure in the darkness.  Excellent representation of divorce from the child’s perspective!!!!!!

The artist comments: “When parents divorced and one parent goes away, the child suffers most because it can not understand why this is happening. It usually loses his unburdened childhood … and must take farewell of them. (the bunny represent the childhood that threatens to go out of the darkness of the parents!)

Burning

A child’s depiction of divorce!

Divorce for this child seems to be a scary thing.  Fire in art drawings can represent emotional distress.  One can imagine the emotional distress this child is experiencing.  The entire pic is about fire! .

“My Family”

Draw Your Family + Divorce = Paper Ripped to Shreds.  A young child was asked to draw a pic of their family. He started drawing a pic and then ripped the picture apart and crumpled the pieces.

THIS IS THE REALITY OF DIVORCE!!!!!!  For the child, their world is ‘ripped to shreds’ and ‘crumpled’!

Chocolate Chip Cookies Will Bring Dad Back

Divorce is an adult concept!

A child makes a heartfelt effort to put the family back together. Unfortunately, all the chocolate chip cookies in the world cannot stop some parents from divorcing.

.

“I’ll promise to make dad chocolate chip cookies every week. They’re his favorite. He’ll come back then.”

Stabbed in the Heart

A HEARTBREAKING depiction of divorce!  This artwork indicates knives coming at the heart of the child from several sides. Two knives seem to represent mom and dad. Is the other knife an adult or family member? Or, is the knife the reality of trying to maintain in a less than friendly  family environment? Regardless of the specifics for the objects; the words are blatant and leave no room for interpretation. This child/adolescent created this picture when invited to describe divorce.  I wonder if the parents are aware of how their child feels?
